Bloody battle at lumber camp near Norwich ends in arrests

Sunday afternoon clash at Antonio Pazdar's lumber camp two and a half miles from Norwich left four Croatians wounded including Pazdar, Palsak, Krizian and Turk. Thomas and George Demjonave accused of marvited assault with intent to kill. Sheriffs Bain and Jones arrested Thomas and George Demjonave and jailed them at Smethport after a noisy beer social turned to violence in the woods.

HON J R CLARK DEAD FORMER LEGISLATOR DIES AT BRADFORD

Junius Randolph Clark aged 74 died at his home 59 Seward Avenue Sunday afternoon after years of illness. Born July 24 1836 in Smoothport Pa he studied law in Randolph N Y and practiced in Warren Pa where he allied with Hon L C Wetmore later a judge of Warren county courts. He served in the State Legislature and was a founder and vice president of the Philadelphia of exchange later years led a retired life. Survived by widow two sons Mortimer and J P Clark two sisters Miss Mary Stark and Mrs Ellen C Hanah and brother Edward P Stark of Binghamton N Y.

Delightful SASTERN STAR social at Lyceum

Phoenix Chapter, Order Eastern Star, held a Thursday Lyceum ball with many members bringing two invited couples. The hall featured a large electric star, red and green streamers, evergreens, and dancing to Chadwick's orchestra. Refreshments were served under Miss Milicent Patileen.

Services At St Luke's With Bishop Visit

Bishop Jaraal will attend Sunday March 24 and lead Holy Communion at 8 a m. Litany and penitential offices follow morning service. DOG POISONER AT WORK IN NO RURAL AREA

Norman Keefer reports two of his valuable hounds poisoned recently. The first died weeks ago with suspected poisoning uncertainty. A second dog died last Saturday, and investigations confirmed strychnine poisoning. Keefer’s dogs were kept at home and never barked at anyone, suggesting a random attack by a cowardly enemy.

Odd Fellows Band Dance at Lyceum Promises Great Turnout

A large crowd is expected at the Odd Fellows band dance at the Lyceum Thursday evening with over 100 tickets sold. The event features the local band plus anticipated attendance from For Allegany, a decorated hall, full musical program, 75 cent tickets, and a 5 cent per course supper. The band, funded by its members, has grown from a rough start to one of Northwestern Pennsylvania’s best musical organizations.

Members of the McKean County Bar Association gathered for their annual toast at the M C A building on Boynton Street starting 6 30. Bayless Paper Plant Rebuilding Progress Nears June Restart

Bayless Paper & Pulp Co in Austin advances reconstruction after the September 30 disaster. 100 to 180 workers at times, capacity to rise about a third, four machines to replace three, wood room finished, weaving and pulping setup under way. Hamlin predicts pulp within six weeks and full operation by May or June pending weather. 220 to 290 workers expected when running. An engineer from Buffalo visited to plan modern chemi and farming systems. payroll recently reached 4800 dollars, signaling a return to normal times.
