In Sioux County about 3 000 men registered last Thursday under the new draft law. The Maurice precinct listed many names including Van Pearsem Vander Wicken Mieras De Jong Vander Steep and De Boer, among others, with numerous local residents named in the lengthy roster.
A long list of personal names appears, including Leslie Bowen Jacobus Jasper Jacob S Adema Micheal O hare Edward De Jager Geo Osborne Murat Doherty Alse DB Mulder Roy Edison Moir and others such as Cornelius Oleare Chester S Riley Hd Mulder Henry Brink Hendrik Pekel Fred Siege Dirk Drost Jacob D Freriks John Vander Beek Fred William Bolt John Henry Borrink Charles De Groot Nick Pauli Biemers Charles Edward Farris Peter Hoekstra Joseph Clément Linnan Bar and Cornelius Den Oude Hugh Emmett Mee Donald Maeryone Eivankooitz.
At a Fairground meeting attended by about 150 farmers the Farm Bureau adopted price levels for corn picking this fall. With elevator 7 cents and without elevator 8 cents per bushel, plus a reasonable allowance where wind hail or other damage reduced harvestability.
A countywide push designates September 16 to 21 as Seed Corn Gathering Week. District Cooperators urge every farmer to stock seed for two years before frost, with October surveys to verify seed collection progress. The plan, backed by federal and state governments, aims for 100 percent participation and echoes Iowa farming practices.
The town hosts a farewell reception for eighteen year olds likely to attend school under federal control for service training as war looms next year. Rev. Brink had a successful ministry year.

Lieut Luke Linnan surprised his hometown by arriving last Thursday and returned to Camp Dick Texas on Tuesday to resume military duties. He expresses readiness for service in the aviation field noting the demanding role of a pilot and American vigor. The Maurice boys contribute to future history as the nation seeks victory. Linnan’s furlough ended sooner than expected and plans for his next posting remain with the government.
