The Great Northern Railway introduces vacuum cleaning machines on its St Paul to Pacific coast train. A uniformed operator handles a motor driven unit to clean upholstery curtains and draperies, replacing the old broom. The device moves car to car with special attachments for dust removal.

Carload of fat cattle burned near town on through freight
A North Western through freight from Quinn South Dakota to Sioux City halted a mile from town when a fire erupted in the first cattle car after the engine. The crew uncoupled and moved the engine to the water tank but twenty four fat cattle were killed as the fire consumed the car. A broken rail shortly after allowed the train to pass safely.
