Alta Mieras stepped on a nail causing a painful wound. Mrs. Joséph Vos from Grand Rapids Michigan visited at Mayor Vos's home. J M Mieras hosted a Sunday school gathering. H Slikkerveer mailed a Sioux County Fair ticket for September 8 to 10. The fair aims to surpass past years with improved efforts. Mrs. Harry Crosby and Miss Helen Baumann of Webster City stayed with L F Woodard. Mr. and Mrs. J S Mieras visit Grinnell to see Mr. and Mrs. C L Jackson. Johnny Van Gorkomn’s swim overdo led to a brief confinement. St Mary's church interior is being repaired and decorated funded by winter social and festival meals.
The Great Northern Railway introduces vacuum cleaning machines on its St Paul to Pacific coast train. A uniformed operator handles a motor driven unit to clean upholstery curtains and draperies, replacing the old broom. The device moves car to car with special attachments for dust removal.
Sunday afternoon at the First Ref church an audience heard three Indian speakers. An older man named Smith spoke through an interpreter about his birth and life. Cloud a Yale student discussed evangelization among his people. Wright, a 16 year missionary, urged churches to do more for native evangelization.
A North Western through freight from Quinn South Dakota to Sioux City halted a mile from town when a fire erupted in the first cattle car after the engine. The crew uncoupled and moved the engine to the water tank but twenty four fat cattle were killed as the fire consumed the car. A broken rail shortly after allowed the train to pass safely.
