Scrowd prained here last Monday as townsfolk gathered for a community event. A base ball game saw Massdam win, with prizes awarded to local residents and notable injuries reported from a coal loading accident.
Over the past week thieves carried out several incidents around Maurice and area. On Wednesday two robbers entered Haugh McDonald turn and took a barrel of about fifteen gallons of cylinder oil. McDonald tracked suspects to the Great Northern track. Sunday evening a break in at Henry Van Pei Sem home yielded a gold watch. Also that night a tire wad Tim was stolen from P Niem antsverdriet place. Reported burglaries at Maurice restaurant Saturday night added to the spate of thefts.
Members of the First Reformed church held a Tuesday evening reception for their pastor Rev. Straks after he declined a call from Ninth Reformed church in Grand Rapids. The event expressed gratitude with words and a monetary gift, a horse donated as a sign of appreciation, and refreshments closed the social gathering.
Chris Den Oudén and Miss Bess Sallie were married in Edgerton Minnesota on May 7 at the bride's home. Den Ouden, son of Miro Hannes Den Ouden of this place, has worked on the Jake Kuiken farm this year. The Edgerton girl, the couple plans to settle at their new home with friends and relatives nearby.
Littl Clarence Vande Brake son of Mr and Mrs Geo M Vande Brake suffered a broken arm last Wednesday after falling from the ocean wave awing on school grounds. Dr Og gar attended and the patient is recovering rapidly.
The Maurice High School Junior-Senior banquet occurred in the school auditorium with pink and gold decor. A program included Toastmaster Bernard Buckley, speakers Marc LaVelle and Peter Wassenaar, solos by Mr Gautenbach and Richard De Jong, and a Domestics Science served menu featuring fruit cocktail and baked ham.
A group of friends gathered at Miss Lorene Mieras home last Saturday for a farewell party. Guests included several named residents. activities featured games, socializing, and a late luncheon.
Abe Sehouten of Treten visited friends here this week. Miss Morris a specialist in Home Economics from Ames College gave a sewing lesson at a special meeting of the Womans Farm Bureau. The event included a Bienie dinner at noon and lunch at four, with plans for ten lessons across Sherman and Nassua townships.
