Farewell Reception For Maurice Boys Departing

A large crowd attended a farewell reception in Maurice honoring boys leaving for service. Rev Conway chaired the evening as Rev A J Van Lammet spoke on Silver Linings on a Dark Cloud, praising America and hinting at postwar reforms. Donations included comfort kits and a testament presented by local ladies and C H Societies.

Carnival Draws Crowds Despite Heat and Hilarity

Last Thursday the hall overflowed with a patriotic crowd eager to support soldiers’ kits and enjoy a strong program. Caruso hit high notes, the fat lady offered a hug contest, miners and minstrel acts drew laughs, and Henry De Jong impressed with electric knowledge though burnt cork comedy stole the show. About $105 was cleared.

Liberty bonds of the first and second issues may be converted into 4 1/4 percent bonds during May 9 to November 9, 1918. New bonds dated May 9, 1918. After November 9, 1918 no conversion rights remain. Registered bonds must be assigned for conversion. Coupon bonds may convert to registered on request with May 15 or June 15 1918 coupons.
