Local residents visit and travel notes from Cherrokee to Storm Lake

Harry De Jager and Vander Berg headed to Cherrokee for celebrations while Vander Stoep left Monday for Storm Lake. Mrs. Vander Stoep stayed longer. Alvin Heusinkveld and family visited C. L. Heusinkveld’s home with others from Craig.

Fire damages Maurice home near supper hour

A Maurice fire department extinguished a blaze at the Arie Hop residence caused by an oil stove left burning while occupants attended to chores. Water damage soaked the interior and a large hole burned in a side wall. Neighbors reported the fire near supper time and a Mr Brink discovered flames from the roof.

Death of Maurice Lad in Le Mars Hospital

Le Roy Edward Hoekstra son of Mr and Mrs John G Hoekstra died Thursday July at Sacred Heart Hospital Le Mars from pneumonia and complications after chickenpox. He was aged 4 years 5 months 8 days. Funeral services were at First Reformed church. Outside relatives attended from Ames Iowa Lynden Wash LeMars Edgerton Minn Sioux Center. Sincere sympathy to the bereaved.

Lightning Burns Farm Home Near Maurice

Lightning struck the Peter Branch farm three miles south of Maurice during an early July rainstorm, igniting a fire that destroyed the residence. John Smit, aided by neighbors, saved some furniture and clothing. The $3,500 insured house burned quickly. Branch plans a new home soon.
