As war profits persist, store owners continue to reap profits with no relief to citizens. Families cut back, earnings barely cover needs, and a call to curb purchases urges wiser spending and restraint.
The piece argues wartime taught that many so called necessities are dispensable. Until prices normalize we must carefully consider every purchase to avoid personal and national embarrassment in pecuniary matters.
The Star Theatre showcases the William Fox big eight reel feature Jack and The Bean Stalk this coming Saturday night July 12. Fox’s productions are touted as superior drama with noted settings and stars, drawing fans nationwide to the Fox quality.
An old family favorite story from nursery rhymes read by mothers is to be shown in Maurice at a low admission price. The screening promises a nostalgic voyage to childhood memories with a note that the film is suitable for families and children. Admission is 15 and 25 cents.
GPA and Tyler completed a deal in Sioux Center making him owner of the hotel furniture and appointing him to manage the place. Mrs. Tyler departed to begin work, Edythe Cole left to assist, and Mr. Tyler plans to stay mostly at Maurice handling the restaurant business with his daughter assisting.
Hazel and Nellie Roghair plan to sell their restaurant and transfer the cream station duties to EB Cy Cole, who will manage from the Times building. Cy Cole will relocate household goods to Sioux Center this week as Tyler family departs. The community expresses regret at the Tyler family's departure and their loss to the area.
Ralph Vander Berg and Gradig Hoekstra returning home Sunday evening collided with a motor cycle driven by Byed Pereboom near the cemetery. The auto was entering a bend on the road eastbound while the motorcycle eastward at a lively clip. Pereboom suffered serious injuries. bones broken but he is said to be improving. The auto was badly mashed. the motorcycle demolished.
Erzberger, who accepted the armistice terms for Germany, fled amid a hostile mob that burned his house and threatened to hang him during the turmoil following the surrender.
Reports from Sioux City list Mrs J B Emery visiting last Thursday while Jd E Emery spent a day there last week. A son was born to Mr and Mrs Hubert VanderMeide on July 4. Sidsma and H Van Dyi were in Hawarden on business. Many attended the Orange City July 4th celebration. Pierce Baker visited from Hawarden to see relatives. Lena VanGorkom came from Doon for the 4th and returned Monday morning. Mr and Mrs P Vander Wickes and daughter traveled to LeMars Saturday. Martenns VanGorkorn and Atle Hop were in Hawarden Saturday night and returned Sunday.
