Maurice high school defeated Doon 35 to 0 in a boys game while the Doon girls won 31 to 5. Volunteers L F Woodard Al Verberg and Naas Schutt drove the team due to poor road conditions. Several community notes follow including visits and travel updates from Ireton Orange City Sheldon and Denver.
Mrs. Ben Kate mourns the death of her stepfather George Nieken of Orange City a 70 year old man who died suddenly after dinner. Funeral held at First Christian Reformed Church Orange City with burial beside his wife in Sandstone Minnesota. Neighbor and friend ties noted along with regional moves and weekly happenings from Orange City and surrounding towns.
Monday’s session opened with opposition to inviting Judge Hough from Indiana’s tax agency to speak at a joint session. On Tuesday he addressed the House and crowd, outlining the tax commission’s review powers and budget savings of about forty million dollars. Despite discussion, no major alignment shift occurred, but the budget proposal may gain traction if framed to satisfy varied views in both chambers.
Sunday visits extend across Sheldon as Mr and Mrs Harry De Vries host relatives and Miss Lulu Taylor visits Sioux Center. Measles recovery continues for Wilson Gray while other residents travel, visit, or note farm activities including hog shipment to Sioux City and route updates for mail carrier Jake Van Steenwyk.
Having quit farming and moved to Hollandale Minnesota the Ben Moen Sr farm west of Sioux Center Iowa will host a public sale Tuesday February 5 1924 starting 11 30. One hundred seventy three head of livestock including horses cattle hogs and calves plus farm machinery. Seventeen yearling calves and eighteen young calves. One registered Short Horn bull three years old. Hog lineup includes brood sows and fall pigs cholera immune. Terms as usual posters for details.
