The Maurice Times G. AL Tyler publisher note lists the paper as entered second class matter August 4 1911 at Maurice Iowa post office under the Act of March 3 1879.
The Times publisher recalls the celebration of a premature peace in Maurice and invites readers to attend Lee Witzpatrick’s Wednesday December 1918 Town Hall lecture. He will present The Power of Song and speech topics including The Other Fellow and The Second Mile, with notes on Fanny Crosby and Dead Lions. Tickets available at the office.
Two soldiers from Maurice Iowa write of field hospital work and relief aid in France during World War I. They describe Red Cross Salvation Army and K of C support, daily life in French villages, mail delays, and hopes for homecoming. The letters detail experiences with wounded, German prisoners, and wartime impressions.
Mrs. G M Vander Brake the Sherman township Military Committee treasurer who helps welfare of departing soldiers stepped into the Times office and paid for another bench of three months subscription to the soldier boys. They do not receive the paper regularly but they receive most of them.
Sergt Tom Linnan of Co D 350th Infantry writes from France dated during October 1918. He reports moving quarters, patrols on foot, cold damp nights, good meals, and hopes for a Christmas return. He asks family to write and mentions not hearing from Luke.
