Businessmen in Maurice plan the Sixth Annual Festival to be held on Aug 6 with a large fundraising push and enthusiastic support. Mayor Emery chaired the meeting and J F Van Gorkom was named secretary. Committees on arrangements, attractions, printing and sports were formed with P N Vos as president and A D Benson as treasurer. Local attendees included O A Flynn visiting from Lacrosse and H A Heusinkveld traveling to St Louis for merchandise. A moving picture show is planned for Aug 6 featuring Husbands at Liberty and other titles.
Miss Bessie Reeves visits Osborne home while Mrs. P. W. Moir is ill earlier in the week. Miss Jessie Hawkins returns from Morningside Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Monroe of Sioux City visit Inter-Floyd farm Sunday. Miss Laura Smit of Alton visits Aunt Mrs. John Bannes last week. Jake Levering, foreman at Enterprise Stock farm, injures foot with a fork but is improving.
The road in sections six Sherman Township and one Reading Township Sioux County is endorsed for vacation by the appointed commissioner. Objections or damage claims must be filed in the Auditor's office by noon September 15, 1910 or the road will be vacated without further reference. Herman Te Paske, County Auditor.
Notice that dividends due on stock of Farmers Elevator Company will be paid on and after August 15 1910. Stockholders urged to call at Sioux County Savings Banks to receive dividends. Debtors with penalties urged to settle by August 15 or no dividends will be paid. P N Vos, Secr.
The Maurice town council met in regular session with all members present. Minutes from July 3 were read and approved. The treasurer’s report was approved and funds transferred to the Bond fund to take up bonds and pay interest. Bills for draying street work and cement crossing were approved and the carnival committee was granted street use. The bond of J P Baker as town marshal was approved and a new tax levy set for the year ahead with mills assigned to Corporation and Bond funds.
