An operation at a New York hospital extracted two tacks from a woman's lungs using long slender forceps passed down the bronchial tubes. Dr Jackson of the Pittsburg Eye and Ear Hospital guided the bronchoscope with X rays to seize each tack and pull it into the windpipe for removal. The procedure is hailed as opening a new field in surgical science and saved the patient's life.

Post Master Mieras plans a future post office move to the Douglas building.
Aunt Matds, who was favored with a visit from her nephew, told the youngster to soak his feet in a tub of hot water if he wanted to toughen them. He did so and after a moment of thought he planned to sit in it again, thinking it would bring another licking tomorrow.
A tongue in cheek note questions why some congressmen retire while joking about health and a progressive diet. It mentions the Post Office Department requirement to include sender name and address on envelopes to avoid dead letter returns. It ends with a story about two boys and a startled owl near a ruined house.
A local dealer advertises 2000 yards of fine washable gingham at 25 cents per yard, down from 35, noting no better clothing exists. The note mentions 18 suits already sold this spring and is signed John Vanden Brink.

Weather has been variable with a Saturday snow turn to a blizzard by Sunday. Frost ruined fruit hopes. A son of Mr and Mrs A B Cook, formerly with a local restaurant, was operated on in Sioux City last week. Grandma Weldboomng visits Alton Thursday to check on the patient.

The Sherman Township Board of Health adopted a resolution on April 4 1910 requiring anyone exposed to smallpox or leaving premises with a case to be vaccinated or subjected to clothing fumigation and body disinfection, or to enter a two week quarantine. Clerk Geo R Moir issued the publication.
