Arson suspected in second fire at vacant Olympia Fields mansion

Firefighters were called to a boarded up mansion at Western Avenue and Vollmer Road in Olympia Fields where a 3:35 PM Thursday blaze was likely arson. The Irons Oaks building had one quarter damaged in a late December fire and witnesses reported forced entry before the fire. Fire Chief Bob Wilcox confirmed the suspicious origin and ongoing investigation.

Drug Intervention Team Guides Rich Township Students

Noreen Riley-Wessendorf leads the District 227 Student Intervention Team of 17 teachers who refer and assist students and families facing alcohol or drug problems. Last year 102 students were referred, with numbers rising to 168 in some years. Alcohol remains the primary issue, LSD rising, crack not observed. The program includes in-house prevention, assessments, after-care, and weekly support groups for children of alcoholics across Rich South Rich East and Rich Central.
