Senate approves Joliet Arsenal prairie plan for civilian use
U S Senators Paul Simon and Carol Moseley Braun backed a civilian use plan for the Joliet Arsenal amid a larger defense bill. The tall grass prairie project covers 23 500 acres of the inactive munitions plant and transfers parcels to state and local redevelopment bodies for job creation while keeping military spending in the broader bill under debate.
