Cook County Rejects Hindu Center Plan for Homewood Site
Cook County Board of Commissioners rejected plans for a Hindu religious and cultural center in unincorporated Homewood Acres. About 100 homeowners petitioned against the site citing septic, narrow streets, hazardous ditches, traffic, and small lot size. Vishnu Patel from Flossmoor argued the center would impact the neighborhood minimally and serve around 50 regional families seeking a dedicated space. The property adjoins St Nicholas Orthodox Church and Alpha Preschool, with the parcel bordered by 183rd Street Pulaski Road 179th Street and Central Park Avenue.

Park Forest 40th anniversary highlights and history
Forty years ago this week Park Forest faced a string of events. A well organized band stole $28000 worth of plumbing supplies from construction and storage areas. The Park Forest section of the American Council of Jewish Women received its charter. Virgil Kraft advertised air trips around Chicago from his 196 Dogwood Street home. Local retailers offered men’s wool worsted suits for 39.50. Road work needed acceleration as bus routes in bad weather were affected. A 1949 Chevrolet was ordered as the police squad car with siren and special design features. School lunches were sold at Park Forest Restaurant for 18 to 45 cents. The notes come from Magne B. Olson of the Park Forest Historical Society.
