Mahoney pushes six to twenty sentencing plan for state
Mahoney proposes sentencing guidelines tied to prison population and suggests six to twenty years for Class X felonies instead of six to thirty. He advocates using current capacity as a limit, with no new prisons. Gov. Thompson aims to lock up criminals, not shorten sentences, while lawmakers weigh Good Time reforms and double-celling as population controls.
