The fifth annual Labor Day celebration sponsored by Park Forest Jaycees runs today and tomorrow with 30 local groups active. Events include Joy Musical Company in the beer tent, puppet shows, a greased pig chase, fireworks at dusk, and various performances from 1 to 5 pm, plus Sunday’s schedule with more music, a Civil Air Patrol fly by, softball tournaments, and carnival games. Park Forest Jaycees fund the three days from local profits and underwrites an $8 to $10 thousand budget.

Park Forest set for first annual scenic 10 mile run
More than 500 runners registered with 200 more possible to sign in morning of race. The start at West avenue and Victory boulevard near Sears at 9 am with 7:30 am registration under Sears roof. Wheelchair entrants begin at 8:45 led by a moped. Village President Mayer Singerman fires starting gun from the fire department aerial. Course runs forest preserves then curvilinear Park Forest streets with Bach and Mozart quartet performances and local musicians at park sites. Aid stations at Saouk Lake, Park and Weswood, and Somonauk park with water and paramedics. Sponsors include Village of Park Forest, Park Forest Plaza Merchants, McDonalds, Bank of Park Forest, and Park Forest Federal. Top runners expected to finish near Indianwood east of Orchard. awards at 11:15 to 11:90 am. This is planned as the first annual event with potential annual repeats.
