Substance abuse seminar aims to assist teens in style of 1990s Illinois
The 18th annual Fall Seminar on Substance Abuse will run 9 am to 4 pm on Nov 3 at Matteson Holiday Inn. Sponsored by the South Suburban Council on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Youth Services Programs it targets teachers, youth group reps, hospital staff, parents, youth, and juvenile and probation officers. Main speaker Peter Palanca of Parkside Lodge of DuPage has 15 years' experience with adolescent substance abusers. A panel led by Sharon Swanson will discuss Adolescent Substance Abuse and Other Life Problems with Dr Andrea Barthwell Cheryl Mejta Dominic Ruffalo Tim Nelson and Father Len Dubi. After lunch panels shed light on youth stories of use and recovery. Workshops at 2:15 pm cover Growth, Neglect, Eating Disorders, and steroid use with local professionals.
