Richton Park village board approved rezoning nearly one and a half acres at Cicero Avenue and Steger Road from commercial to B-1 neighborhood business district citing proximity to single family homes and resident protests. Trustees also budgeted up to 1500 for hall sale appraisal and up to 1200 for renovation estimates with a schematic site plan to aid revisions.
Woodgate Crick Hill and Creekside associations present to Matteson trustees a plan for single and multi family dwelling size requirements, fireproof construction, and public notice rules. They seek a November 30 enactment for key items and January 1 1979 for remaining proposals, plus a 25/75 multifamily to single family ratio.
Rich Township High School District 227 on Monday night adopted the Rich South prairie and woodland preserve as a long term effort. Supt James Warren led the resolution with board member David Barr and James Gilchrist seconding. The plan designates the southwest campus area and pond as a nature classroom for Rich three campuses, emphasizing conservation and gradual development. Margaret Anderson noted the site will be a neat classroom as part of annual goals.
District 162 moved to curb Arcadia vandalism with a dusk to dawn school closure rule and new lighting. Police gain trespass powers and a public briefing for parents via Arcadia PTO. Grants and programs, including a four year federal reading grant and Chi San Bop finger counting method training, were discussed as part of broader district efforts.
Matteson trustees approve a temporary wooden Cornfield street sign for Creekside subdivision residents awaiting a permanent marker. Postal rules block mail delivery on unsigned streets, so the village will place the sign until the final sign is ready.
