Matteson residents and village employees may share views on the residency requirement at a 7:30 p.m. workshop in the village hall board room. Trustees discuss placing the rule on the April 2000 ballot. the ordinance, enacted April 18, 1994, applies to sworn police and fire personnel, public works, maintenance, mechanics and foremen hired after that date.
Four nominees from Rich Township High School District 227 earned state recognition in the Those Who Excel awards. D. Scott Umbrell, board member, received an Award of Merit. Lloyd Bernier, Rich South guidance counselor, earned an Award of Recognition. District 227 Teacher Leaders To received an Award of Merit. and Rich South High School earned an Award of Recognition in the Learning Organization category.
Park Fire Department beefs up its fleet with a state of the art Luverne Innovations ladder truck delivered after a year long wait. The 34 member department will orient on the highly sophisticated engine through ongoing training and plans to display it during October fest on Friday. Fire Chief Michael Spain says the response from responders is enthusiastic and the machine is wonderful.
Ellen Richards of Chicago Heights and her granddaughter Kelly Bettin explore turning leaves at rwin Park in Homewood. Kelly, age 1, is from Homewood. Norm and Kathy Johnson of New Lenox enjoy colors on Old Plank Road Trail in New Lenox. At night Pam Zimny decorates a tree in Glenwood with ghosts and pumpkins for her two children. A group of senior citizens walks with the Homewood Flossmoor Park District.
The Matteson Historical Museum forms a committee to draft a strategic plan focusing on marketing programming exterior interior development HR and funding. Director Cynthia Ogorek will lead research on funding museum programs visitor study and a new website. Rita Miotti will discuss extending the museum into vacant Parks and Recreation offices at 815 School Avenue in the same building.
