Remap Could Put Two GOP Senators In One District

The Illinois redistricting panel approved a map that may pit Republican incumbents from the south suburbs against each other while preserving many Democratic seats. The plan doubles as a House district split and shifts numerous county lines, with the 40th Senate district now housing Mahar and DeAngelis and Republicans like Davis and Grossi drawn into shared or adjacent districts. The map, reflecting Democratic control on the commission, faces potential legal challenges and will reshape the 82nd General Assembly’s political landscape.
