Richton Park Village raises 1998 tax levy initial OK
The Richton Park Village Board approved the first reading of the 1998 tax levy of 1 555 556 dollars plus 1 465 752 for debt service. The levy would rise about 1 43 percent averaging 6 dollars more for a 150 000 dollar home, lower than last year’s 5 3 percent hike. A 500 000 dollar general obligation bond issue was also approved to fund water and sewer system improvements and extension. The levy must be filed by December 29 with a public hearing ahead of filing. final passage is anticipated December 7.

Drumstick Dash Benefit 5K Volunteers Set for Richton Park
The Midwest Regional 5K and Youth Mile Championships called the Drumstick Dash in Richton Park aims to raise funds for Make A Wish Northern Illinois. Last year over 700 participated and organizers expect record turnout with pre registration at 15 dollars for a sweatshirt. The event starts 8 a.m. with the Youth Mile and 9 a.m. 5K on a 1.8 mile course, closing Sauk Trail intersections. Proceeds aid terminally ill children. Dash founded by Dale and Mary Ann Winterhoff and run by Parks and Recreation volunteers from Richton Park.

Judge upholds Park Forest officer's firing ruling
Former Park Forest police officer William Tucker lost his bid to regain his job when Cook County Circuit Court Judge Dorothy Kirie Kinnaird affirmed the Park Forest Fire and Police Commission’s Dec 6 1997 firing over impaired hearing.
