Richton Park officials weighed a request to allow River of Life Ministries to operate a church at Lakewood Plaza Sauk Trail 5111 in the former racquetball site The Evans of New Lenox lease the space for a three year term through 2002 They had planning commission support but staff urged denial citing precedent and compatibility with a business district The row over churches in commercial zones drew comments from Trustee Gregg Spathis and village planning staff while the church plans to relocate from Frankfort were noted.
Richton Fark's proposal for 1999 taxes shows no increase in the village's portion of homeowners' property tax. The projected levy totals 1,803,100 with 1,515,255 excluding debt service, up from 1,608,169 in 1998, and the board plans to file with Cook County by December's last Tuesday.
Matteson ex parks chief Jim Sharp urged the Village Board to consider a compromise to the residency ordinance. He proposed a radius system for employees, arguing it would be a win win for residents and village workers while a vote on maintaining the rule is set for the April 2000 election. Sharp spoke after meeting with about six residents, noting many favor the rule but also a radius option. Trustees Graham Z conquers Zahn Green and Allan Johnson voiced support for a radius system, seeking employee freedom of choice where they live.
Beth Royle executive director of the South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association for 21 years will resign effective Jan. 1 to head municipal consulting for Ehlers and Associates in Naperville. The group represents 38 suburbs from Mokena to Crete and Blue Island to Orland Park, with Royle credited for transforming it into a regional planning body.
