District 162 Schools Earn Top State Honors
District 162 received high commendations from the Illinois Board of Education with the panel recommending the district for its top status. Secretary Ruth Stelter was praised for meticulous records, while only one issue noted was missing parental occupations on student files. In a 4 3 vote the Olympia Fields village board approved Mercy Residence a housing facility for well elderly at Tolentine center. A tied vote was broken by Village President Anita Healey. The project will not alter current uses with space remaining for Keller Graduate School of Business Olympia Gymnastics counseling and other services. The center will renovate two wings complete drawings bid process and build permit with occupancy expected by December 1 housing 55 to 60 residents from 48 signed up. Also approved a 3000 loan to the library board to cover startup costs until the September 1985 tax levy and Alpha Construction drainage work expected to finish by May 31 to ease flooding on Promethian Way.

Homewood considers Opticom traffic signal system
Homewood reviews adopting Opticom technology to let emergency and police vehicles change signals as they approach. Mattoon and Flossmoor already use the system with plans to expand on Route 30 and at Governors Highway intersections.
