Eyler confession ends local murder mystery
Larry Eyler, a proclaimed serial killer, dies in prison as his prison confessions lead to closure in a Cook County Township homicide. Jimmy Roberts, 18, was found dead at 17300 Vollbrecht Road in Thornton Township after being submerged face down in a pond. Sheriff investigators had long suspected Eyler but lacked evidence to charge him. Kathleen Zellner, Eyler’s attorney, released details from the confessions after a press conference, calling the disclosure landmark. Eyler died from AIDS complications earlier this month. Dirk Lowry praised the release for finally advancing the case.
