Critics say voucher plan discriminates against disabled children
Parents of children with disabilities mobilize in south and southwest suburbs urging state legislators to block Senate Bill 17. Critics say the plan diverts tax dollars from public schools to parochial and private institutions, threatening federal education funds and violating Illinois constitutional limits on using public money for religious purposes. Reports quote Rev. Tolbert and ABLE Coalition members voicing concerns about reduced therapies and access to services for disabled students.
