Private school tax credit clears first Illinois House hurdle
Illinois lawmakers narrowly approved a private school tax credit bill urged by Rep. Kevin McCarthy. If the Senate passes, Gov. Ryan would sign. The plan offers up to 500 dollars per family for private school tuition with a 250 dollar baseline, funded by expected 70 million dollars in annual lost revenue, drawing both strong support and opposition over church state questions and equity in school funding.

Will County seeks state gas tax authority for road funding
Will County Board voted 17 8 to ask Springfield for permission to impose up to 4 cents per gallon gas tax to fund $115 million in unfunded road projects. Supporters warn of gridlock without funds while opponents fear business impact and cross border gas purchases. If approved, hearings will determine tax amount and use, with potential tie to property tax relief.
