Prairie State exam delay sparks debate in Illinois
Illinois faces a push to delay the Prairie State Achievement Exam as State Superintendent Glenn McGee seeks a one year pause. He proposes replacing end of high school testing with earlier exams, phasing out ISAT for 10th and 11th grades, and combining tests to save time and money while giving students multiple attempts to improve scores.

Plan to cut amusement tax for large venues in Chicago area
Chicago Mayor Richard Daley and County Board President John Stroger proposed reducing amusement taxes on events at venues seating more than 5,000, cutting city tax to 3 percent and county tax to 1.5 percent. The change aims to lure big-name acts back, with venues like United Center Soldier Field and World Music Theatre benefiting, while sports events remain taxed.
