Mayor defends actions in accident in Tinley Park
Tinley Park Mayor Dwight Welch denied driving under the influence after his city car lightly touched a parked vehicle in a bar parking lot. He said the incident occurred around 1:30 am while picking up his son, amid snowy conditions, and that police accepted his report with no field sobriety test or DUI arrest. A political flier by opponent Freda McArthur prompted a council response, but residents at the meeting voiced support for Welch while he outlined city projects, including Loews theater and the Eagle Country Market closure, and discussed a proposed property tax rebate for homeowners.
