Matteson village trustees announce three public information meetings to review an $800,000 bond issue for a new police building. Meetings: March 13 at Woodgate Elementary, March 20 at Matteson Community Center, and March 25 at village hall. A referendum appears on the April 2 ballot and, if approved, funds would cover part of an estimated $1.8 million project.
The Fraternal Order of Police in Olympia Fields Matteson Park Forest and Richton Park endorsed Matteson village president candidate Joseph Feehery and three Matteson trustee hopefuls Frank Poppie Arnold Sline and Robert Martin. The endorsement noted candidates who would support growth and development and attended a PAC meeting to discuss future candidate support. Keith said the group may back more candidates and planned meetings with Park Forest and Olympia Fields contenders with Richton Park still undecided.
The EPA and Riverdale Chemical of Chicago Heights signed a consent decree to study and remediate dioxin and pesticide contamination at 220 East 17th Street. A 30 day public comment period begins tomorrow through April 1. Riverdale will perform a remedial investigation, submit a feasibility study, and cover EPA expenses including future costs. The site previously showed 364 ppb dioxin with other hazardous chemicals detected. the study will assess contamination pathways and potential human exposure.
A public hearing on the Melvin Simon shopping center at Route 30 and Governors Highway resumes Thursday at 7 45 p m in the Matteson Community Center 4450 West Oakwood Lane The continuation was moved to accommodate a large audience with earlier attendance over 100 residents and about 30 standing The Olympia Fields plan commission subcommittee will also meet this week to review the proposal amid flood and traffic concerns from nearby residents
