Prairie State College balances budget despite state funding gap
Prairie State College in Chicago Heights expects a $304 599 1994 year surplus while carrying a $614 000 cumulative deficit. The board cut 12.5 positions and implemented early retirement to balance the year end June 30 1993 and reduce the deficit, with hopes to finish 1995 debt free. New full time tenure track posts were created for performing arts and biology, filled by Valerie Nicholson and Dr Ruben Barret at salaries of 27818 and 35296 respectively.

United Way Campaign Exceeds Goal in Matteson Breakfast
The 1992 United Way of Matteson campaign raised 21 500 in donations and pledges and allocated 48 000 to 13 agencies providing health and human services. Leading residential and business contributors were recognized at a June 10 breakfast sponsored by La Salle Bank Matteson. Local agencies include Aunt Martha's Youth Service Center Boy Scouts Calumet Crisis Center South Suburbia Family Care Services Metro Chicago and South Suburban Council on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse among others. The effort began in October with Awareness Day at Lincoln Mall and a third annual event is planned for October.
