A $500,000 U S Department of Labor grant announced by U S Rep George O Brien will enroll hundreds of displaced workers from the south suburbs in job retraining programs at Prairie State College Center for Economic Development. By year end about 65 percent of new enrollees could gain jobs in home health care, word processing, instrument repair and advanced technology. The program expands PSC staff and services with cooperation from Thornton Community and Joliet junior colleges and support from Ford Motor Co United Steel Workers and UAW among others.
