Housing activists push countywide Section 8 equity plan
South Suburban officials argue subsidized housing favors the South Suburbs and advocate an Affirmative Counseling Program to inform renters of all options across Cook County and into DuPage County. The effort, led by the South Suburban Housing Center, would provide escort services to rental sites and connect families with support agencies to prevent segregation and expand choices. Additional legal action may follow if the program falters, with 18 current members and a goal of 40 as municipalities are urged to join.
