A state study supports building a Sauk Trail I-57 interchange to ease congestion at the US 30 interchange in Matteson. The project, costing 6.5 to 7 million, would widen Sauk Trail between Central and Cicero and add ramps to I-57 with traffic signals at key drives. The plan foresees a near split of interstate traffic between Sauk Trail and Route 30 and expects improved drainage, curbs, gutters, and a closed drainage system.
Local auto mechanics rejected a contract offer from car dealers on the second day of a four day strike. Owners proposed removing a limit on insurance coverage and raising salaries nine percent over three years, but the mechanics union rejected the offer by a pretty good sized margin, according to officials.

The Matteson Plan Commission would oppose rezoning 2.7 acres at Lincoln Highway and Central Avenue for a 49-room hotel, fast food restaurant, and service-station store. Edward Vrdolyak represented an unnamed client to seek an opinion on pursuing the formal rezoning. The site lies just south of a Matteson fire station amid residential surroundings. officials questioned the hotel's compatibility due to proximity and traffic concerns.
