Parents are urged to keep children safe this summer with practical tips on supervision sun protection water safety and activity planning. Experts advise establishing routines checking swim skills and teaching hazard awareness to prevent common accidents during carefree days.
Matteson village trustees authorized a $1.55 million police station project with Polson Architects of Urbana as architect for a fixed fee of 120000 plus up to 500 in expenses. Also engaged a financial advisor and attorney to assist with an $800000 general obligation bond sale approved by voters.
Richton Park officials discussed earmarking Village Fest reserves for a community building, a 1982 resolution established the fund, and the parks and recreation commission favors directing funds to community projects. The board also considered adding the Playboy channel via Centel TV with a $9 monthly fee, subject to 90 day notice rules and franchise considerations.
Author Paul Leinberger, Park Forest native, returns home to finish a sequel to The Organization Man. He interviews 55 Park Forest pioneers and other former residents across the U.S. to explore the national phenomenon of the American businessman and the life in new towns after World War II.
Matteson School District 162 will run four computer courses for fourth through eighth graders in two sessions from June 24 to July 12 and July 15 to August 12 at Huth Upper Grade Center. Fees are 15 dollars per course. District serves Matteson Rich Township Park Forest and Olympia Fields. Additional after school computer club discussed as possible extended services pilot. Total computer equipment approved exceeding 9 thousand dollars with IBM computer software and optical scanner to streamline attendance and records.
