Manish Tipi Lesson Brings Plains Culture To Matteson School
Sieden Prairie students spent a week in late May learning Indian history as junior high teacher Steven Brackman erected and inhabited a Plains Indian tipi with eighth grade boys. Edward Keenan Jr and his father delivered the tipi from Vermont Illinois, aiding its setup. The 18 foot high balsa pole structure with 18 foot diameter can bear fire and strong winds, a vivid hands on cultural study.
