Park Forest officials agreed to study a joint emergency dispatch system with Richton Park Matteson and Olympia Fields. The plan could cut costs through shared equipment and staffed by fire trained dispatchers, boosting efficiency though concerns about service impact and benefits remain.
The Richton Park Board of Trustees held its first neighborhood meeting of the season at Lincoln Crossing's Pierce Park. Police Chief James VanSchepen urged residents to join the Neighborhood Watch and Citizen Patrol, noting lowered burglary rates and the value of community crime prevention. The next Citizens Police Academy session will be in fall, offering ride-alongs and emergency response observations.
Mike Campos plans to reopen the former Bob Evans site in July after extensive renovations begun in February. He says the exterior will get stucco, a 75 foot waterfall, and an outdoor patio while the interior will feature stainless steel kitchen walls and reinstalled floors. The Iceland Cafe will join the new restaurant serving frozen custard and jumbo hamburgers.
The Matteson Board approved selling the 11 440 square foot vacant lot at 4241 Lindenwood for 26000 to Realty Executives Midwest. An undisclosed buyer will have option to build four to six story multi family housing. The property had been vacant since 1995 after a court ordered demolition.
Public Works Director Mike Conley announced a new tree branch pickup option in Richton Park. The village will collect yard waste every Monday in summer and branch trimmings on the first and third Tuesday, with bagged clippings and preappointment required. Branches must be 10 inches or less in diameter and cut to manageable lengths. Residents must place branches out by 6 am Tuesday. there is an appointment system for branches and limits apply. The program, approved in March, followed a trial with 93 homes and mixed costs. The village aims to increase efficiency and reduce complaints while private haulers handle the service.
