Calumet Expressway renamed for Bishop Ford

Springfield honors Bishop Louis Henry Ford by renaming the Calumet Expressway as the Bishop Ford Freeway after a dedication and ceremony. Gov. Jim Edgar praised Ford’s civil rights work and church leadership. the change follows long advocacy by Illinois Black Caucus leaders and religious groups. Ford led the Church of God in Christ since 1990 and helped shape Chicago race relations and civil rights efforts.
