Crete mayor blasts money bill on road funds
Crete Mayor Michael Einhorn criticized House Bill 3478 at a village board meeting, saying it shifts Motor Fuel Tax funds from traditional road work to bike and pedestrian projects, favoring richer, denser towns. Mellissa Bowlz of the DuPage Mayors and Managers Conference said the bill would let MFT funds match federal grants and support bike lanes, with Gov. Edgar awaiting signature after surgery. The mayor urged a funding formula change considering miles and road types, while Bowlz noted broad needs but argued the bill sets categories rather than amounts.
