Matteson plan commission granted conditional approval to rezone 2.36 acres beside Dave Miller Oldsmobile at 4550 Lincoln highway from residential to C-4 commercial. Auto dealer Miller sought space for growth, citing sales from 50 to 125 monthly in four months, with projections rising to 1,600–1,800 yearly. Opposition focused on density and appearance, but assurances included grassy frontage, rear fencing, and bright display lighting pending a sanitary district drainage report.
Officials from Park Forest South CIC, South Suburban Housing Center in Homewood, and Far South Suburban Housing Service in Richton Park are weighing a regional merger to boost impact on housing patterns. Park Forest South village board voted unanimously to back the plan.
1976 Cook county property tax bills arrived in the south suburbs showing higher totals than 1975 despite a three point state multiplier cut. In Park Forest Matteson Richton Park and parts of Olympia Fields rate increases ranged from 4.63 to 9.58 percent driven by District 159 bonds and growth. District 162 rose 4.63 percent and Sanitary District Bloom Township cut 14 percent. Park Forest 162 and 163 districts posted notable changes with Park Forest municipal rate up nine percent.
