Tollway weighs 20 sites with one south suburb plan
The Illinois State Toll Highway Authority released an interchange feasibility report listing 20 potential sites for future interchanges on its 274 mile system. In the South Suburbs only the I-57 and I-294 interchange is kept. six interchanges were dropped including a planned Central Avenue option tied to a Calumet-Sag Channel crossing. Officials cited cost, needed river crossing work, and environmental limits, while county and local leaders urged improvements to ease congestion.
