The Village joined several municipalities in adopting a Butterfield Creek intergovernmental agreement to support a watershed management plan, reduce downstream flooding, and coordinate funding and efforts among Gocher Hills Olympia Fields University Park Forest and other communities. The resolution states no financial obligation or power transfer for the village. The steering committee will continue advisory work on stormwater, soil erosion, and flood mitigation.
A nine member Creekside Woodgate and Feathercreek Preservation and Anti Flooding Committee formed in May 1997 to block Virginia Estates a 75 unit single family subdivision by Hymn Development between Willow Road and Central Avenue south of Allemony Drive The Plan Commission approved the proposal but residents cite flood risk and cul de sac distance violations including two cul de sacs beyond 500 feet from the street drawing concerns about emergency vehicle access.
Richton Park approves a special service area to fund a path for an asphalt bike and walking route in the Greenfield subdivision. Developer John Hryn will build the path and be reimbursed via a 20 cent per $100 assessed value annual tax, financing labor materials and related costs.
Rich Central and Rich South high schools join teachers and administrators in funding clean durable beds for 37 Costa Rican children. The effort aims to prevent intestinal parasites by moving kids off dirt floors onto mattresses, with fund-raising led by Lorrie Marron and others.
