This third in a five part series details the 1993 racketeering bribery conviction of former Chicago Heights Mayor Charles Panici. The indictment alleges Panici conspired with Council members Gliottoni and Marshall to extort kickbacks from contractors. Prosecutors describe bid rigging, false billings, and threats to coerce payments.

Richton Park Fire Department moves closer to taking possession of a new Quint fire engine built by Laverne Apparatus at a cost of about 461,910 dollars. Fire Chief Michael Spain said a March 9 site visit will check chassis progress and expect final completion by late June or early July. The Quint combines water pumping and ladder duties in a single self contained unit, replacing two older vehicles.
Rich Central High School senior Adam Kalesperis earned third place in Original Comedy at the IHSA State Final Speech tournament in Gurnee for his Cycle of Love. He previously placed fifth in Humorous Interpretation as a sophomore with The Odd Couple Female Version.
Huth Middle School in Matteson hosts a semester long Police Technology Project with guidance from Richton Park Matteson Park Forest and Olympia Fields police. Sponsored by SSMMA and Governors State University the program pairs classes with officers to study youth crime issues and email updates.
