Golden Apple finalists named Mary Hawes and Karen Nyberg
After 295 Illinois teachers competed two women from local high schools advance to the Golden Apple finalist rounds. Mary Zosel Hawes of Rich Central High School in Olympia Fields and Karen Nyberg of Homewood Flossmoor Community High School in Flossmoor are praised for challenging students and boosting confidence through communication, biology and hands on learning with animals and field trips.
