Flood relief moving forward with 42 million transitional reservoir
The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District votes to seek bids for a 42 million transitional reservoir part of the Deep Tunnel project. It will shield 20 plus businesses and 4,400 homes in Blue Island to South Holland from flooding along the Little Calumet River, with 3.1 billion gallons stored in a Thornton quarry and completion expected May 2002. The project may cut flood damage costs, but Thornton officials critique it as unnecessary.
