Matteson police officer Mike Halpin had to surrender his German shepherd to a kennel on orders of the Village Board after it was found he did not maintain a local residence. Halpin recently moved from his Matteson home while undergoing a divorce and currently stays in South Chicago Heights. Davis, a 37 year old accused of two counts of first degree child molestation, was released from Matteson police custody due to a warrant error. A group of mothers from the south suburbs organized petitions and media outreach to prevent future releases, citing concerns for Illinois children.

District 159 in Illinois remains financially sound despite the Illinois State Board of Education placing Matteson Richton Park School District 159 on a watch list for troubled finances. Superintendent Thomas Mullins notes the list’s criteria include using teachers orders to finance salaries, a move the district made in December 1992.
The South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association adopts a voluntary program to donate funds for a permanent PADS shelter. Residents may add $1 to monthly water bills to support the facility and operations aimed at housing about 100 homeless individuals.
