Prairie State budget stays in black no tuition hike next year
Prairie State College officials said a near 3 million surplus eliminates any need for a tuition increase next year. President Timothy Lightfield cited a past 750 thousand deficit and noted stable property taxes, steady enrollment, and regular state funding while planning for future needs such as updated equipment and more full-time faculty. The board also approved a 1,000 a year five year donation to the Chicago Southland Alliance to spur regional job growth and a dental clinic fee increase to offset higher supply costs.
