Homewood Flossmoor team wins IHSA regional speech trophy
The Homewood Flossmoor High School Speech Team placed first among 13 schools at the IHSA Regional Speech Tournament at Thornton High School on Feb 5. Thirteen events reached finals, with multiple students advancing to sectional at Oak Lawn Community High School. Winners include Trisha Bucholz, Madilynn Beck, Matt Churilla, Brian Levin, Amanda Mesirow, Therese Wilson, Jack Treptow, Lisa Martinez, Stephanie Bleiseethigel, Amber Friendly, Ryan Grzelak, and Churilla in various categories. The production Archy and Mehitabel won in round entry and advanced to sectionals.

Chateaux School marks 100th day as students display sets of 100
Busy time at Chateaux School Hazel Crest as kindergarten and first grade join in celebrating the 100th day of school on February 3. Students created projects with 100 items such as Cheerios coins and beans. Upcoming events include award assemblies Thursday at 9:15 a.m. for kindergartners through third graders.

Chateaux School schedules include an African American Heritage program on Feb 24 at 7 pm and an African American Quiz Bowl on Feb 25 at 1 30 pm for grades four through six. A DARE recognition for sixth graders occurs at 9 30 am on P day. A Career Day is set for March 31 with District Board meeting March 20.

Marian Catholic Math Club earns third at Catholic League meet
Marian Catholic Math Club placed third with 560 points at Montini High School in the Catholic League Math contest. Marist won with 705 and Brother Rice was runner-up at 643. Dan Pozdol took first in algebra II, Nick McDonnell and Sam Ruiz won oral competition. Lauren Burrows and Annie Bahu were freshmen-sophomore team champs, McDonnell and Ruiz won junior-senior. Marian also finished third in geometry and algebra II team events. Mike Cavalo earned an individual third in algebra I. The club heads to Regional Contest February 26 and will send two three-member teams to Purdue-Calumet March 6.

Hillcrest Mathlete Team Wins Division Meet at Feb 2
Eastview Parkview and Saukview students presented exhibits in the Administration Center answering board questions. Hillcrest's Mathlete team won first place in the division conference meet with junior and freshman squads earning ribbons in functions calculator linear equations and oral competition. Lisa Newman coaches the Hillcrest Mathlete team.
