Richton Park trustees approve a resolution opposing Frankfort’s request to extend water and sewer service into an adjacent unincorporated area south of Steger Road to Monee Manhattan Road and west of Harlem Avenue to LaGrange Road. A public hearing is set for February 16 at Lincoln Way High School East Campus Frankfort, with the Northeastern Illinois Planning Commission overseeing.

Matteson officer loses suit again passed over for promotion
Thomas Anderlik 23 years with Matteson Police sued Cook County circuit court seeking review of the Matteson Fire and Police Commission’s March 1998 sergeant promotion decision. He topped the eligibility list but Norman Burnson, brother of Police Chief Lawrence Burnson, was chosen. On Tuesday the commission chose Kenneth Arvin, second on the list, for the promotion.

Trustees approve three resolutions to transfer the village cable franchise from Jones Cable TV Ltd. to TCI Cable Inc. and AT&T. Only Trustee Rick Reinbold votes no citing safety concerns from a report on grounding and poor service records. he cited TCI’s public safety issues and absent board discussions. He also noted Harvey and Oak Forest have moved to seek other providers.

Matteson Seeks Nominations for Good Neighbor Awards
The village invites residents to nominate neighbors for its 18 year old Good Neighbor awards with a Feb 19 deadline. Nomination forms are at Village Hall Community Center and Public Library. About 70 people have won since 1981 for being naturally helpful and aiding seniors and the disabled. The March 14 reception at the Matteson Holiday Inn draws 150 to 200 attendees. Last year’s honorees included LaDonna Miller, Shirley Robinson, Betsy Rollings and Floyd Smith.
