Marley the hero dog saves family from upstairs fire
Marley a stray rescued from a pound received a Homewood Fire Department certificate of merit after alerting Sue and Tim Nelson and their sons Darren and Greg to a blaze in the upstairs bedroom near 1 a.m. on January 22. The dog barked, the parents woke, and Tim quickly smothered the fire with the flames contained before firefighters arrived. The fire was likely caused by a space heater shorting out, and Marley was praised as a "911 hero" for waking the family in time to prevent greater damage.
