Matteson trustees will decide Monday whether to gift portions of Locust Street and an alley to Matteson School District 162 for a southeast corner one-story addition to Huth Upper Grade Center at 3718 W 213th Place. Plan Commission approved the request after a public hearing despite resident concerns about construction, noise, and access, noting 18 feet of road would remain after vacating the streets.
Police Chief Richard Labus reported the first day of Richton Park’s in house court on Dec 10 went well. Hearing officer Robert Clifford presided over 56 cases, with $500 in fines collected and $1,675 placed on 30 day payment, plus $850 previously collected from people paying fines rather than appearing in court. Clifford received unanimous approval.
The village awards three heroes Darren Stevens Anthony Glees and Penny Buckmeier for rapid actions during the Nov 28 Wildwood Condominium fire that left 60 to 80 evacuated and the 42 unit building largely damaged. Police and Fire Chiefs praise they saved lives as emergency crews and Red Cross aided victims while donations surged for victims and a Chicago Lower Wacker Drive relief mission is planned.
Rich Township High School District 227 approved a five year tax abatement for a Matteson business development along Cicero Avenue south of Vollmer Road, pending District 169 approval. Matteson officials say the move lures businesses, replacing untaxed empty land with future tax revenue.
Richton Park police used the Denver Boot on a car in the Illinois Central lot after the owner accrued over 1300 in unpaid tickets. The officer refused to release the name, noting she had 21 violations. To remove the boot a driver pays 75 and 150 on the spot tow fees. Five or more outstanding tickets now triggers boot action in Richton Park.
